On Sunday, December 10, 2017, the faithful of St. Nicholas parish in New York were blessed to receive Metropolitan Nicolae to celebrate the patron saint of their parish. The feast began on Saturday evening with Great Vespers, and continued on Sunday with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. At the moment of the commemoration of those who have fallen asleep in the Lord and at the end of the Liturgy, HE Nicolae prayed for the repose of the servant of God, King Michael of Romania and of all the parishioners, priests, and benefactors of the parish.
In the sermon, HE Nicolae first briefly interpreted the Gospel of the day. The woman healed by Christ represents the whole humanity bended by weaknesses and sin. God Himself descends on earth to heal humanity, God himself comes to the synagogue to heal the woman. Speaking of Holy Hierarch Nicholas, His Eminence gave him as an example of gentleness, a defender of faith, a Christian who fulfilled the commandments, a devoted servant in the Church. The parish priest, Fr. Marius Dumitrescu thanked HE Nicolae for his presence and offered him, on behalf of the faithful, an icon depicting St. Nicholas.
The festive meal ended the St. Nicholas feast in New York. The children from Sunday School and the choir of the Parish, led by Leonard Milea, offered a beautiful program of carols and patriotic songs much appreciated by the faithful.
