On December 1, 2024, the Romanian community in Seattle, Washington, experienced moments of spiritual elevation and joy at the Romanian Orthodox Church of Saints Joachim and Anna. On the occasion of Romania’s National Day, the event was marked in a special way, combining prayer, spiritual reflection, and the celebration of Romanian traditions.
After the Holy and Divine Liturgy, Fr. Ștefan Drăgoi, the Parish Priest, officiated the Te Deum service of thanksgiving – as a sign of gratitude for the unity and identity of the Romanian people. In his speech, the priest conveyed a moving message about the importance of unity in personal, family, and national life:
“Any division, whether within the Romanian people or within the family, comes from the temptation of the devil and not from God, who is love. In these moments of celebration for the Romanian people, we call for unity and love.”
After the service, the community gathered in the church’s social hall, where the festive atmosphere was complemented by a special cultural and gastronomic program. The event began with the singing of the national anthem, followed by an impressive performance by the Datina Ethnofolcloric Ensemble. Through their dances, the artists brought back to life traditions from various regions of Romania to the delight of those present.
The artistic moment continued with the performance of two patriotic songs by two members of the parish, Mr. Ovidiu Mihai and his son, Alexandru Mihai, who brought an extra layer of emotion and national pride.
The end of the event was marked by a sumptuous meal, lovingly prepared by the ladies of the parish. The fish dishes, inspired by Romanian culinary traditions, were appreciated by all those present, strengthening the bonds between the members of the community.
Through this celebration, Saints Joachim and Anna Romanian Orthodox Church of Seattle reaffirmed the importance of preserving national identity and unity in Romanian communities abroad, offering an example of harmony and brotherly love.
