In Hampton Roads, VA, the Sunday of Orthodoxy Vespers is organized and held by the Brotherhood of Orthodox Priests, and this year the service was held at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Norfolk, VA.
The service was presided over by His Grace Thomas, Bishop of the Diocese of Oakland, Charlston and Mid-Atlantic of the Antiochian Orthodox Church, along with nine priests from various Orthodox churches in the area.
In his sermon, His Grace identified the two types of believers in our churches, who either resemble in this fast the bees who choose services, prayer, temperance, or who find excuses in order to ignore the beauty of prayers and the exhortations to repentance during this fast, thus resembling the flies that never choose the beautiful flowers but ignore them.
The festivities ended with a fasting agape, kindly offered by the Greek Ladies’ Association.
